WOODLOT PROJECT

The woodlot project began in 2022 when we teamed up with Porta, one of our corporate sponsors to begin a new two-year project to plant timber woodlots in 10 schools across Uganda. These 0.5-to-1.0-hectare woodlots provide schools with firewood and poles at harvest, which occurs after 4 to 5 years.

The income from the timber enables each school to buy education materials and equipment. In the process, students also learn the value of growing trees while also benefiting from their shade and amenity. After harvest, the trees re-shoot to form a new crop.
